By standing still waiting for the pass you create interceptions. Interceptions are avoided by the receiver being on the move.
As an analogy insects are largely caught by their prey because they are immobile. In netball a player's pass is intercepted because they have passed to a team mate who not moving or the pass was poor (misdirected). Either way the receiver has to be moving to take the pass.
Don't risk it and assume the ball will get through. Most times it won't.
If a teammate is out of position or too well defended, don't take a gamble and hope to get through with a lob pass.
Three seconds to pass is a lifetime providing players are moving (presenting) for the ball. If players' are not moving creating space and using the whole court to move the ball forward to the shooters, then three seconds is soaked up like a sponge and rushed passes result.
If a teammate is covered pass to another player who has run into open space to receive the ball.
An interception is a turnover and a step closer for the opposition to win the game. Providing two players are always presenting for the ball turnovers are greatly minimised.
